Many insurance companies are now offering a new coverage on homeowners insurance policies called Underground Service Line Coverage. This is a newer coverage in the industry, and it is welcomed by many homeowners – specifically ones who live in older homes. Underground Service Line Coverage will cover any service lines, such as water, sewer, gas, etc, that are buried and on your property if they are damaged or broken.

Corrosion or tree root damage is most common and also covered on this endorsement to the policy. Within cities such as Philadelphia, continued street parking can cause damage via the weight of vehicles on sidewalks. Many times, it can cost upwards of $10,000 to replace an underground service line, and with this coverage, you would only need to pay the deductible in the event that it is damaged.

Talk to your insurance agent today to see if you have this coverage, and if it is something you could benefit from! It’s almost always less expensive to endorse onto your current home policy as opposed to acquiring this coverage a la carte from an outside vendor.
